My great-grandfather and grandfather were both dowsers. Does it run in families?

Dowsing and families NEW

I think, perhaps, that the ability to dowse in certain areas appears to run in families, but it is not necessarily true.
The reason for saying that is because if someone is a dowser, they tend to teach their children to dowse and often those children will accompany the parent on dowsing jobs. So, there are some father-son water dowsers I know of because of this.
However, I believe that dowsing is a skill which everyone is capable of showing. That means that everyone has the potential to dowse.
But having a dowser already in the family (especially if that dowser is known for dowsing outside of the family) will tend to interest the children more and encourage them to exhibit the skill as well.
Hence, it can look like dowsing runs in families, whereas dowsing really runs through everyone. So, Lori, you are a dowser right now, as is everyone who reads this. It's just a matter of whether or not everyone uses that skill.
