Dowsing information can be from a variety of sources and times

'What dowsing information can you access?' is usually one of the first questions (in one form or another) anyone asks about this skill.

The answer to that is very wide ranging indeed.

Firstly, the question can mean what are the sources of information you can access? That is a tricky one!

The ideas

The reason it's tricky is that the answer depends a great deal on your own beliefs. For example, there are those who say that dowsing information comes from something called the Akashic Records. These are thought to be the record of everything, past, present and future, in the cosmos. By dowsing, it is thought, you are 'tuning in' to these records (held, presumably, like a vast library, somewhere other than in our universe), and consequently, you can ask whatever you want for the answer is there somewhere.

A second idea about where dowsing information comes from is in the form of the collective unconscious. This is a slightly more restricted version of the Akashic Records above as it really deals with the all of humanity (past, present and future). It's an idea first explored by the psychologist Carl Jung as it helped him to understand both himself and his patients better.

Yet another idea is that the universe is, in some way, holographic. A hologram is a strange device as it can contain a 3D picture of something. Yet, when it is broken, each piece contains the whole picture.

In the same way, a holographic universe can be thought of as being like this: any small piece of the universe (and we are small pieces!) can and will contain everything. Therefore, when we dowse we are naturally able to access anything anywhere in the universe.

The final idea, very similar in some ways with the others, involves something called Quantum Entanglement. This is where two or more particles, people, minds, what-have-you, seem to be directly connected with each other even though they may be far apart in space or time!.

This strangeness can be used to explain how information may be acquired because we are somehow connected with everything else.

In other words, this idea is a more formal explanation of the holographic universe and is certainly similar to the collective unconscious, but it needs something else to match it up with the Akashic Records idea.

Other information

The other way of answering the question, 'What dowsing information can you access?' is to look at what you can dowse about.

Although there are many possibilities, there are some which are more popular than others. In no particular order (and I'm bound to leave some out!) they are:

• Sacred sites
• Crop circles
• Ancient Sites, (sometimes called archaeological dowsing)
• Garden dowsing
• Ghost hunting
• Dowsing for health
• Finding water (also called water witching)
• The future (also called divination)
• Treasure dowsing

In each of these areas you can find different sorts of information.

Basic information types

No matter what area you exercise your skill in, there are only a few basic types of data you can access. They are:

1. Time: when (how far back, how far forward or now)
2. Place: where (in time and space, in this or any other universe)
3. Who: person or other being (yourself or any other consciousness)
4. How: using what (this is a large area and can prove difficult)
5. What Happened: (again this can be difficult to be accurate about)
6. Why: (this is less used than the others)

Of all of these, the first two are by far the most important bits of information you can access.

However, as you can see, this list pretty much covers every aspect of any question you can ask in dowsing. Information can be obtained about anything (more or less). It's up to you to interpret it!
