Dowsing when I was a kid.

by Jeff
(Bedford, MA)

There was something on TV just tonight about people who are dowsing for some kind of treasure... That sparked me to do a search for websites about it. Why? Because even though I was able to dowse for water with both the branch of an apple tree and with bent hangers, I didn't quite believe it.

So I am 40 now and haven't dowsed for anything in a long time. This is still something I could not explain when I was a kid and still doubt... but let me tell you that back then I wasn't looking to impress anyone and I was kind of embarrassed that I had this "ability." There is definitely a pull and an uncontrollable draw on both the metal hanger pieces and the branch when I did it. It was really confusing. Did I mention how stupid I felt doing this?

Bottom line was that the neighbor who tried dowsing but couldn't get it to work and then asked me to try it all those years ago called in a company to drill a well right where I was getting an indication that something was there. That well has not dried up more than 30 years later. I'll never understand the ability. I took physics, chemistry and love science... This stuff will never make sense to me. For all I know, they have an underground lake on their entire property and so there was no wrong place to drill.

Merlin: Scientists
by: Anonymous

Dear Merlin,
Remember one thing in life: A Scientist or Geologist is a highly qualified person with papers he can throw on the table. We, as Dowsers, with a God-given talent, have got nothing to prove except we exactly know what we are doing. These clever guys, and nobody in the world, are able to tell why a dowsing tool starts moving. The same with Racing Pigeons (like mine) finding his direction home in a couple of seconds.
Many times people called me to pinpoint where to drill for water. THIS IS AFTER A GEOLOGIST HAS MARKED THE POINT WHERE TO DRILL) My mark has NEVER been on the same spot.
Last year, a farmer called me in again where a geologist showed him. I moved the marker about 10-15m away and said to the farmer: This water is going to be very strong and salty and the only use for it is to make salt with the water. No animal including his flock of sheep and even wild birds will be able to drink it. I said to the farmer; you are wasting your money to drill here but its your money and your decision.
They drilled. Till today the water is still running out of the borehole and unable to use. Afterwards he said: "I should have listened to you." He have had no option but to pay for the geologist and the drilling costs.
Merlin, take a couple of plastic buckets with water, mix one with salt, another swimming pool schloor, etc. On your Y rod fasten a piece of silver and walk over the buckets, then a piece of copper, then a gold ring etc. NOTE THE DIFFERENCE IN PULL!!
GOLD; Put a golden ring on the floor. Try with different metals onto the y rod.YOU will be surprised my friend!
I have found a type of stone that "works" on diamonds. I can find any tunnels (empty or filled up with sand) old rivers, canals etc. For many years it is as someone or something is calling me to Stonehenge in the U.K. What if I walked around the PYRAMIDS of Egypt?
Wish you all success

If you talk to a scientist they say it doesn't work. They traded common sense for book smarts.
All they know is what is in the book

Dowsing as a kid
by: Merlin

My dad taught me to dowse when I was about twelve
I never could understand how it worked, but it did. I now travel all over now doing dowsing commercially.
I enjoy every moment of it.

Dowsing kids
by: Nigel

Thanks for that story.
It's true that most kids find it ridiculously easy to dowse and have no idea why it is that adults have such a hard time doing it. They know it happens and also have no interest in understanding it. To them (you), it's just natural.
I've had kids as young as 8 following an underground water pipe two minutes after showing them how to hold a tool. Makes me feel kind of stupid. :-)
