I'm a student at SFA, and in my Environmental Science class we are testing dowsing and the techniques. Does gender play a part in the ability to detect water when dowsing?

I've not known any particular difference in gender having any effect on finding water. However, if you do any sort of research into water dowsers, you tend to find that they are male. Now, whether that is because males are better at finding water or whether it is because sons were usually taught to dowse rather than daughters, is hard to say.
Not all water dowsers are male, but the ones you tend to read about are.
If you are doing experiments in this, then try to get a balanced sample and see which gender is most successful.....although setting up an experiment is, in itself, fraught with problems. Testing water dowsers is one way scientists pass their time, and they go to enormous lengths to make their tests objective. But, unless dowsers are actually working (that is, trying to find water for a purpose other than being tested), results tend to fall off badly.
